Wanting to be Understood?

In 2018, there were over 1 million Chinese undergrad and graduate students in the United States. Often times, foreign students have a difficult time assimilating into American culture. This is due to a number of reasons:

• You do not feel that your English is strong enough to interact with Native English Speakers.
• You do not know enough about American culture to make meaningful connections with Americans.
• In China, you were taught to learn English from reading textbooks + taking exams.
• Americans are not actively reaching out and befriending you

As a result, you spend most of your time hanging out with other foreign students that speak your native language, rather than striving to assimilate with American society.

2018年，超过1百万来自中国的留学生赴美学习本科和硕士学位。如何能真正融入美国文化变成了一个普遍的问题，我们总结了一下几点.

• 觉得自己英语不够好，不够自信去和美国学生交流。
• 有时不能完全理解美国文化，聊天中难插话，互相get不到互相的点。
• 在国内学习的时候更加注重考试和语法，缺少口语的应用。
• 美国学生和中国留学生之间存在一定的误解，缺乏沟通。

由于这些原因，中国学生大部分的时间还是和中国留学生玩，形成了自己的圈子也不想跳出自己的舒适圈，反而更难和美国同学交流从而理解和融入美国文化。
